Today, I lent my sister $1000 because she and her husband were in some debt. They used the money to go gambling in Vegas and won a major jackpot. They won't even give me a cut. FML

It wasn't her money anymore. If they lost, she would still be owed 1k, which they would probably return to her at some point. He who dares wins. They dared and won. She didn't and she should never even think to ask anything more than 1k. She is greedy. And full of envy for nit having guts to risk. Don't take me wrong. I don't have guts for risk, but at least I am not thinking that I should get something just because.

I think the bitterness is from the sister refusing to pay her back the grand meant to cover debts which they idiotically spent gambling. Sure, she isn't owed anything more but for her to refuse to pay back someone who helped her out of kindness? That's jerk-ass behavior.

U gave them the money because u wanted to help them u should be glad that didn't lose it and now they have money to help pay off the debt u should expect nothing in return

So if you give a homeless person 20 bucks to get a few hot meals and he thanks you and likely promises to do so. You find out he went and spent it on booze and with other charity on drugs. You have no right to be upset or regret that gifting?

Sounds to me like they will be in debt again, considering the way they spend their money. Next time it happens, don't lend them the money. Lesson learned.

WHAT? so they're in debt and they decide to spend their 1000 dollars gambling?! wow they're completely irresponsible! and op, you're entitled to only the money you lent them, and interest if you like, but they aren't obliged to give you anything extra unless it's out of the goodness of their hearts.

Just ask for the $1000 back. You don't need to be greedy by asking for a huge cut, just get back the money she borrowed from you.
