shouldnt have left you GPS holder on display, since thiefs will still risk breaking into your car in hope you left your GPS in the glove compartment
the thief probably enjoys irony
Who doesn't?
I'm certainly a fan.
Anyone who says YDI on this one is retarded. OP was wise to take preventative measures to protect his belongings. It could have been a much worse FML, though, seeing how he still has his GPS, even if he does have a broken window and no more plastic mount.
All you need is handy dandy duck tape.
The thief is probably too stupid to work at Wal-mart. It doesn't take an IQ of 80 to swing a crow-bar. The irony of this whole post is that people are calling this type of thief 'smart'. If he was smart enough to make mid-five figures a year, would he be robbing a vehicle? Probably not. If he was an unfortunate soul that got laid off due to the recession, do you think he would be dumb enough to rob a vehicle for 'hot' property that couldn't be sold? No, he probably wouldn't. Actually, he might be. That might be the reason why he was on the employee axe list. Oh the common sense behind all of this is killing me! Some thief's are smart though, I will give some of you that. But the smart thief is the thief looking for items that can be sold right away, or even if they are 'hot'. A GPS unit, which uses the world famous GPS technology to locate where said GPS unit is in the world would be the dumbest thing to try and re-sell. Those GPS units wouldn't have a product number or unit ID that could identify it on the very same GPS system that it's supposed to be on, oh no, it couldn't. I mean, that very same ID is used in it's day to day usage anyways...why would police use it to help track it down. If a thief actually was 'smart' enough to take a GPS unit, the police would smile so big that you would have thought they found a donut shop. They would track this GPS unit with the help of the victims unit ID in hopes that the thief is wanted on other charges, or is the suspect in other missing property cases. This is why GPS enhanced vehicles that are stolen are never found with the embedded GPS system turned on.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that GPS receivers RECEIVE signals. They do not transmit a signal that allows them to be tracked. I know because I've had one stolen, and no, there was absolutely nothing I could do about it except for file a police report and check the pawn shops. The police didn't even bother coming out to talk to me, GPS units get stolen every day and 99% of them are never seen again by their former owners. You can buy software to put on your GPS for tracking, but even then the unit has to be connected to a computer with internet in order to work. Did you honestly think there was some database somewhere tracking every GPS unit sold that people could just check in on whenever they needed? LOL
At least your GPS wasn't stolen ;)
You should have taken the mount off too. The thief probably thought you have your GPS in your glovebox.

everyone knows a plastic mount is why you have to pay the $150 for the GPS system. GPS Unit = $150 Broken Window = $250 Stolen Plastic Mount = Priceless
Sure they would. Leaving the mount sitting there means you HAVE a GPS, and most people just put it in their center console or glovebox when they're not in the car, not their pocket. So the thief probably assumed there was a GPS unit, then got irritated when there wasn't and took the mount to be a dick.
