Today, I ran a red light in front of a cop and got pulled over. My friend thought it would be funny to throw a knife in my lap and scream "Help me officer, he has a knife!" FML

I don't know where you are from 60, but here on the north American continent carrying a weapon for defense is not illegal and will only get you in trouble if you started the altercation or if the judge believes it's use was unjustified in your circumstances. The part about using a knife instinctively and killing someone without thought in your comment disturbs me though. It's that kind of mindless repetition of propaganda that allows governments to strip rights from their citizens at will. If you pull a weapon and use it, it's not a mindless act and definitely not the fault of the weapon. I have a concealed carry permit good for 32 of the 50 US states, in over a decade of traveling with a pistol on my side I have never even come close to "instinctively" killing someone with it in an argument. Please learn TO think and not just what to think.

the difference between a crime and self defense is simple, you can't use it just because some guy gets in your face or pushes you around. you can use it, however, if he starts beating you with a stick, pipe, large *****, etc., so basically if his actions qualify as 1st (2nd?) degree assault you're perfectly justified. it follows the same laws as carrying a gun.

65, I agree with you, i have a few friends who are cops and they have all told me the same thing. I carry knife on me when I leave my hoise, I would rather not use it if at all avoidable, but if carrying and using the knife means saving my life if someome wishes to do me harm, I think I'll keep carrying it around.

Your friend is stupid. That said, you could've avoided all of this by not running a red light.

60 is from australia. Its not always illegal if you have it for work etc. but if you go to the movies with a 10inch serrated military knife then yes its illegal. There is no point arguing American v Australian v British laws as we were all raised differently and what one believes another will not. But from a hand to hand combat point, a knife is more dangerous than a gun.

Sounds like your friend's going to be walking everywhere for the next few months. Be sure to honk and wave as you see him stumping along.
