Today, I ran over a squirrel. I saw it twitching, so I backed over it to end its suffering. It wasn't a squirrel; it was a kitten. The children it belonged to watched as I ran over their kitten. Twice. FML

#16, that's retarded. pets can get loose rather easily, no matter how much you love them. However, I do still say that the OP did the right thing, shit luck that it was a kitteh though

31 and 41 win. An animal that size that comes into contact with a moving car is pretty much screwed. Someone mentioned their dog being mostly okay with painkillers after being run over - what kind of dog? I've known one that survived a couple car hits, but it was a retriever wayy bigger than any kitten. Trying to dodge an animal in the road at the last second isn't safe at all, and it could have darted out right in front of him; I'm disappointed in all of you who think it's necessarily his fault for hitting it. I'm pretty sure when a person randomly jumps out onto a highway and gets mowed down, not too many people really blame the driver. My driver's ed teacher way back when had a story about a student who accidentally hit a squirrel, mauling it but leaving it still alive, so she turned around and went over it again, then came to him in tears about it. His official decision was a. don't try to dodge animals with a death wish, b. it's just merciful to end its suffering. A kitten that gets hit by a car is almost definitely going to die, and will definitly be in extreme pain. A squirrel, which he thought it was, wouldn't receive treatment, so it would die no matter what. A quick finish is the best way to go.
