Today, I ran over a squirrel. I saw it twitching, so I backed over it to end its suffering. It wasn't a squirrel; it was a kitten. The children it belonged to watched as I ran over their kitten. Twice. FML

you did the right thing. even though the kids are ****** up it's better to not let the kitten suffer. RIP KITTY!

#35 and #53 FTW. Honestly, what's the matter with you? You might not even have hit it that hard; the poor thing may have just been stunned. Those children deserved the chance to try and save their kitten, and you, sir, are an asshole. I hope you apologized to those little kids. Next time, watch the damn road. And to everyone saying that he ended its suffering - if someone hit you with a car, would you prefer they backed up and "put you out of your misery"? What about if he had hit a small child? Humans are not necessarily more valuable or important than animals.

You could have at least gotten out to see if it was alive. WTF. How about you pay attention to freaking road, it could have been one of those kids. Asshole.

you do not get to claim that you did the right thing by ending its suffering when you are the when that caused its suffering in the first place! YDI x 1000000000

lol #13 and #57, #13 is being sarcastic cuz he/she is acting like they are the little kid in the story haha

Thank you #70 for summing up the reasonable argument. I love kittens. I do. I have one. But if one gets hit by a car, there's not going to be anything you can do for it. 71, you can't hit a kitten "not that hard" with a car. The weight of the car will crush the kitten regardless of how fast you're going. Unless by some miracle you only ran over it's tail or something, but I think it'd be doing more than twitching in that case. Also, it's ridiculous to say that it's the OP's fault that he hit it. Sometimes there's just nothing you can do. Maybe there was a car in the other lane. It's not always okay to just swerve to avoid an animal. It's not always about just "watching the damn road." It's just not always preventable. OP, the kitten was going to die anyway. You did the right thing. It's just sad that the kid had to see and that the kitten had to die.

#70 it was my dog. its a small dog, weighs 9kg. it wasn't literally run over, I imagine it was just thrown by the impact. its his fault for deciding the "squirrel" is doomed before even figuring out its a cat.

That should teach those kids to keep a hold of their pets and not let them on the road. Good Job. Furthermore, to swerve to miss the animal would have been irresponsible, you would have hit the kids!

Oh, that's awful, the poor thing. You can't be blamed for it, accidents happen, and you were trying to do the right thing. I feel sorry for you AND the kids. :(

Also, #25, if it was small enough to be mistaken for a squirrel, it probably would not have made it anyway. Sucks for the OP but he/she did the right thing, even though that's not always the easiest thing.
