Today, I ran over a squirrel. I saw it twitching, so I backed over it to end its suffering. It wasn't a squirrel; it was a kitten. The children it belonged to watched as I ran over their kitten. Twice. FML

Did you deliberately run over the "squirrel" the first time? I know people who go out of their way to do stuff like that. If you did, then you are evil. In any case, you should have gotten out and checked on it before backing over it. My grandmother ran over a squirrel once, and we were only going like 25mph, and it was so small I could not even see it when I turned around and looked out the back window, so you obviously knew you hit it and slowed down. Grandma didn't even realize she hit anything because she was watching the road; I only happened to see it dart out on my side at the last minute. For most people, it's instinct to swerve. The road couldn't have been heavily trafficked if you had time to slow down and BACK UP. Geez. When I was a kid, two of our dogs got out while we were leaving for school one morning--I watched in horror as they ran in the road, and we were running after them, screaming. One bastard slowed down, then proceeded to hit one, then punched the accelerator and plowed right over the other one. I have NO SYMPATHY for you. NONE.

I wish people would stop assuming every person who hits an animal in the road does it on purpose. They backed over the damn thing to end its suffering. What the person did to you was horrible, and they should be kicked in the skull for that. However, a dog is much bigger and easier to see. A small kitten on a busy road will not have the same chance.

OP did see it! if he noticed it twitching he saw it, it was most likely squished. A kitten is not going to survive being squished by a car. It was only going to suffer. If everyone here complaining because they love animals obviously only care about themselves and their feelings not the animals. It was suffering, OP did the humane thing instead of drive off and let it suffer like most would

okay accidentally hitting an animal and feeling bad, one thing. BACKING UP AND HITTING IT AGAIN?? completely disgusting!! you didn't even know what you hit! so irresponsible. i hope they call the cops on you FML, TAKE THIS DOWN.

imagine if the kitten was just SLIGHTLY hurt O.O (what has gone through the kids mind) OMG MY KITTEN WAS RAN OVER ohhhh it´s still alive!! god blesss it, I´ll take care of it till it gets healed! 5 sec later.... a pancake...

this is the only fml that actually made ms laugh out loud.

The OP didn't just hit the kitten, the OP RAN OVER the kitten. They death of the kitten was inevitable at that point. Weight of car vs. small kitten? really who do you think would win? And to check to see if it was already dead? Then it would have been dead and no need to run over it again to put it out of it's misery. Now what if the OP hadn't tried to put it out of it's pain? he would have driven off the kitten would have laid there twitching and suffering while the children watched at the added horror of seeing their kitten move unnaturally until the next car comes along to finish the job.
