Today, I received a ticket for not having my headlights on. The cop who pulled me over had a broken headlight. FML

And cops also go 80 down the road at night without their sirens on. Cops do dangerous and illegal things all the time on the road and since they enforce the laws, no one can stop them. I feel your pain OP

You need to keep gift certificates to Krispy Kreme in your car.

...or a fresh batch or Krispy Kream doughnuts. (free cookies for whoever gets the reference)

Oh that's a low blow to all cops lol

I believe it's Krispy Kreme... Oh god, I've become one of them.

Yeah that's an excellent idea! Or not.

Here in australia. You cant record or take photos of an officer without consent. Its an offence

YDI for not having your headlights on.

Snap a pic of the cop car with the headlight out and use it in court to try to get out of your ticket.

In what universe would that work? Childish. OP didn't turn his headlights on, he deserves the ticket.

In my universe it works perfectly fine, I would not only get out of the fine, but I would also get a cookie for getting a headlight fixed on a cop car.

OP may have not had his headlights on, but the cop isn't allowed to write a ticket for something like that if HE has a headlight out. even the cops have rules to abide by.. his car needs to be under code as well, otherwise the ticket is void.

Kay, it's not a matter of "wah, the op doesn't deserve to be punished." yeah, damn, he didn't turn his headlights on and that's a violation, but the fact of the matter is that the cop can't issue a ticket if the vehicle he (as in the police officer) is driving isn't under code. I don't believe I ever mentioned "OP doesn't deserve a ticket" I said he shouldn't get one if the cop's vehicle isn't under code itself. get your facts straight and learn to read. thanks.

Didn't think my post would actually be taken cereal, but Kay sounds really mad so il go away... :(

Ur dumb, b*tch. 2 different situations. Had OPs headlight been broken like the cops was, OP wouldn't get a ticket. But, since presumably, OPS headlights were working, and OP neglected to turn them on, they get a ticket. I don't know what world you're talking about, but it's a fantasy world. There are no rules saying that a cop can't give a ticket in these circumstances. Is it morally right? Thats debateable. Sh*t happens, lifes not fair, and you gotta take responsibility for your own actions.

Just the other week i got a warning for having a blown headlamp globe. Just got told to take it straight home at get it looked at. My dad on the other hand copped a fine for no headlights on after dark. Op has working lights but chose not to put them on. That was his mistake and i bet now hes learnt a lesson for it. What would have happened if the copper didnt pull him up and op hit someone because he couldnt see them? You people talk about the police as in theyre out to ping people and empty wallets! Theyre keeping the roads safe from idiots like op!

To be honest, #28, I feel like you're making this shit up as you go along to try and make a point that clearly makes no sense. There's a difference between having a busted headlight, and neglecting your duty as a privileged driver to turn on your working headlights. It take a millisecond to turn on your headlights. OP was lazy, OP deserves the ticket. The cop can't just pass by a car with no headlights on and say, "Oh, one of my headlights are broken. I can't pull this dumbass over, even though it could cause someone innocent to get hurt. Oh well." No. His job AS A COP is to make sure the roads are safe for others to drive on. In MY opinion, OP was completely inconsiderate.

And I'm going to go ahead and apologize in advance if I repeating anyone's comments. The only comments I really looked at were the few between Kay and #28 (I don't remember your name)..

Just how is this an abuse if power? Op clearly has done the wrong thing!

I love the irony of the situation.

"what seems to be the problem, officer?" "you have a headlight out" "well, I am lead by example quite obviously".

Re-read it. Op did not have his lights on at all! Thats why he got fined. Not because of a blown headlight

you should've called him out on it.

Apperantly that's what happens when dumb cops mistake their pecious cruiser for a random driver and use the "I see you have a broken headlight (smash)" trick. Never trust dumb cops...

Two wrongs don't make a right. You still deserved the ticket, even if the cop deserved one as well.
