Today, I told my boyfriend that I was going to stop drinking, since I have been having some problems with alcohol and some of my relatives are alcoholics. He later broke up with me, saying he couldn't be with someone who "chose to be boring." FML

He is the boring one because he thinks you need alcohol to have a good time!

I'm sorry OP. Don't listen to that turtle dick. I know plenty of exciting sober people. Good for you for making an effort! Good luck!

I'm sorry, OP. That was incredibly tactless and stupid on his part. You made the right decision for yourself.

Good job OP! It's hard to live up to the Jersey shore lifestyle

Not gonna lie but it sounds like you are much better off without him. He sounds like an rude asshole.

You should have known better than to be born into a family of alcoholics.

How exactly does one control the family they are born into?

Either this is a failed attempt at sarcasm,or you are a complete idiot that should go back to kindergarten

Dumping you was the best thing this prick did for you. Now, find a REAL man.

let him go. he's proabably not worth you. he cant have fun sober.

I have no idea how old you are but you have made a brave and extremely mature decision that few in your position would have the foresight to make. He would be the one complaining in a few years time - living with an alcoholic is no fun at all. If he can't support you in the prevention then you can be sure he would have run like hell when it came to the cure - that's always much harder. It may not seem like it now but he did you a favour.

Yeah, that's probably a good thing though. I mean if alcohol is becoming a problem for you, hanging around someone who thinks they need to drink to have a good time PROBABLY isn't in your best interest.

Forget that dumb-****. You deserve someone willing to support you and will PROBABLY need said support, considering your family history. Now go find yourself a MAN. And GOOD LUCK :-D
