Today, I took my wife and newborn baby girl home from the hospital. While waiting for the elevator, an elderly couple leaned over, saw our baby, and said, "Look, it's the fat kid that was in the nursery." My baby is six and a half pounds, and my wife hasn't stopped crying. FML

You should of replied "Look, its those wrinkled prunes that go around insulting newborn babies". That'll teach them ;DD

How is this an FML? The chubby babies are usually the cutest and the healthiest. Fat babies are the best.

6.5 lbs is HARDLY fat. But nothin's cuter than a fat baby anyways. I love it when they have rolls :D

I was 6.5lbs when I was born. And I have turned out to be a skinny bastard. Start feeding that kid Maccy D's right away. Blend it up and add it to the milkshake until he's on solids. ;)

I'm gonna give your wife a pass because she just had a baby and is hormonal, but dang. Everyone knows 6.5lbs is not big for a baby, and would your wife have been happier if her baby had been born severely underweight? It would be one thing if the baby really was fat (which isn't a huge problem anyway), but it so is not, so why even worry about it? It's just dumb, so I hope this is an FML because you have a super-sensitive wife, which probably does suck from time to time. Anyway, congratulations on the baby!

Food for your thought: My mother is a 125 lb woman. She had four children. All four of us were seven to eight pounds each. Your baby is fine. The average weight for a newborn baby is at lease seven and a half pounds nowadays. Besides, while nothing's cuter than a chubby baby, it's also healthy for the baby and her brain development.

ahh, post-pregnancy hormones. i'm sure that won't be the last of her crying jags during the next few months. as far as your baby being fat...my first son was nearly 11lbs, and the first time i was able to walk (after my c-section, during which my doctor informed me that my son was so large he was stuck in my pelvis even though i hadn't done any pushing) was when they were weighing all the babies on the floor. i hobbled down the hallway and saw my son next to two other babies, and commented on how tiny the other babies were. the nurse looked at me like i was insane and informed me that one was 8 1/2lbs and one was 9, and both were big babies. my son was just the size of a 3 month old. :) people aren't very tactful sometimes.

they're old. you and your wife should get over it.

Normal birth weight is considered to be 7 lbs 8 ozs, so your baby is just under that but still within the healthy range. Tell your wife to dry her eyes and all will be fine, at least her doctor did not force her to have a natural delivery with no pain killers to a baby that he guessed to be around 9 and a half pounds. My son was actually born at 10 and a half pounds.

My mom says that a pound or so of weight didn't make a difference to her. She's had nine kids, and I was the smallest at eight pounds, six ounces. She's never had an epidural. I'm really sorry if your birthing experience was exceptionally unpleasant, but did your doctor really "force" you into anything? If that is true, you should sue him or her for malpractice.
