That's terrible, I'm so sorry. There's nothing worse than a one sided love, though. Take heart in knowing there was nothing left to say to each other, and I hope you find someone who you'll never stop having exciting things to say to.

Depending on how that text conversation went, that was very mature to initiate conversation after realizing that was what was missing. Most people always sit and wait for the other to do it and nothing happens. Sorry it ended badly though!
