Today, I was accused of cheating on my wife when an earring was found in our car. I knew it was my mom's missing earring but she didn't believe me. After calling my mom and getting them on the phone to clarify, my wife is upset I told my mother at all. Now I'm not a cheater, just an asshole. FML

She's embarrassed because now she looks like a paranoid bitch who jumps to conclusions. So to justify her behavior, she marks you as "the asshole". It's obviously her own issue. Hopefully, she realized that soon.

she just doesn't want to admit you're right ;)

You know, if I found something like that in my man's car, I'd be wondering... but I wouldn't be jumping to conclusions like that. Tell your girlfriend she'll get farther by asking whose it was CALMLY, first. I don't blame you for putting your mother on the phone to clarify. If your girl won't listen to you, how else can you prove it?

I would divorce her. sounds insecure and annoying.

OP's wife definitely has issues. Doesn't necessarily mean OP did something. Maybe she had a previous partner who cheated on her, so when something like this happens, it's kind of like a psychological reflex - a conclusion she jumps to based on prior experience. And then, like others have said, when she's been proven wrong - because she's unable to admit it, she calls OP an "asshole" instead. OP should tell her how he feels about it - about the accusation, and also about her reaction after being proven wrong. I'm not saying doing something rash or irrational - but the fact that she can't trust him, means that there's something not right.

guilty conscience, I would of believed my husband when he told me it was his mom's the first time he said it.
