Today, I was assigned to be the one to teach Grandpa how to use his new smartphone. An hour in, and we're still going over volume controls. FML

have fun! and be patient, you know how old people are with technology! it's understandable... somewhat.

Cherish these moments, as annoying as they may be. He won't be around forever. Make fond memories :)

I don't think it was the smartest idea to give your grandfather a smartphone.

OR grandpa is a grown adult and is able to make his own decisions on what kinds of things he'd like to own

proven, of course, by the fact that he can't even figure out the volume controls.

my grandma still uses one of those unstoppable Nokia phones... all she needs to know apparently is how to press the green button to receive a call.

Yeah, except that no longer seems to be an option :/ when I went to get a new phone recently they were all touchscreen smartphones, no other choices.

Good luck OP! Unfortunately someone people just can't run a smart phone no matter how much you teach them.

Good grief, it's gonna take you 8 hours basically to show him how to use it. Good luck.

Yeah, I think you shoulda gotten Grandpa a Jitter Bug.

Just remember this moment when you are 70 and your grandkids are teaching you how to fly antigravity machines, teleport and use a hover board (finally).

What's wrong with a flip phone? I use an old slider phone, and it still does what all phones are supposed to do -- it sends and receives texts and calls.

my father refuses to own smell phone of any sort. it's very frustrating. if there's an argument about making plans we always tell him "well I called you on your cell phone..."
