Today, I was at a Starbucks drive-thru and was grabbing a hot coffee when I got rear ended and my car hit the vehicle in front of me which deployed my airbag. Hot coffee can really burn when it hits your face at a high rate of speed. FML

High speed? The speed limit in a drive thru is like 5 mph And wouldn't the front airbad not deploy if you got rear ended at about 5 mph?

lol I was thinking that too. especially since all of the starbucks where I live have tight driveways that wrap around the building which would make it extremely hard to speed....

He said he got pushed into the person in front of him, causing a frontal collision. THAT would cause the front airbag to deploy. The initial collision wasn't the cause of the airbag.

Airbags are designed to deploy when you are going over a certain speed (although it is most likely an inertia switch).

not necessarily..you can have front impact at a low speed that does not deploy airbags..If they were in a drive thru they would have been going slow and they probably wouldnt have been able to generate enough impact to deploy the airbags

Yes, "high rate of speed". Do you have any clue how quickly airbags move when inflating? Quickly enough to burn your skin quite badly. And it sounds like the airbag HIT the cup causing the coffee to splash at the same speed as the airbag was moving.

How fast was the guy going to push you into the car in front of you bad enough to make the airbags deploy? That really really sucks and I hope that the d-bag who caused all of this has really good insurance! I hope that you have a speedy recovery!
