Today, I was crying at my desk at work. My colleague tried to cheer me up by saying: "Don't worry, I'm sure you will find a new job soon". I didn't even know I was fired. I was crying because my cat died this morning. FML

Today, I found out my boss wrote me up because he heard me crying on the phone, and that it was unprofessional. I was talking to my sister, who was telling that me my father had died. Three weeks ago, he was crying about his dog breaking his leg. FML

Today, I was at a meeting. One of the other members decided to share that their cat had passed away recently. I got an uncontrollable nervous laugh, started crying because I was laughing so hard, and left the room while everyone watched in horror. FML

I'd check to make sure you were really fired, what if your colleague just assumed that's why you were crying? maybe they just don't think very highly of you!

Definitely agree that it's possible you aren't really fired and your coworker just assumed that's the only reason you would cry at your desk. Personally, I think crying at your desk is obnoxious and attention-seeking. I understand being upset, but take that drama to the bathroom, cry it out for a minute, then clean up and get back to work. If you are so devastated that you can't function at work, take a sick day. But why would your boss pay you to sit at your desk and cry?
