Today, I was diagnosed with migraines. Any loud sounds or bright lights make it worse. I'm the drummer for a heavy metal band, so I now have to choose between really bad migraines or a career. FML

You should always out your health before most things! Remember that you only have one body, while you can have multiple careers. Fyl though, and I hope the medications are effective :) I have heard that migraines are horrible to say the last, so good luck in the future, always a lot of options left.

Keep drumming! Metal for life!

Migraines are manageable with lots of things. Medications like Relpax for pain prevention or codeine for pain relief. Even acupuncture and aromatherapy help. You shouldn't give up on what you have worked so hard for before exploring the different remedies. :)

Um, don't know about you, but I'd pick a career over migraines any day. Am I the only one that read this right?

Op I feel you. I have vertigo triggering migraines, and I work in a very noisy environment. I take 150 mg of Topamax a day, which should really only be prescribed for migraines if there's other factors involved, not just migraines, and Cambia for when one start happening.

Don't you mean no migraines or a career? You can't choose between one situation.

I'm sorry... Is "drummer in a metal band" a career now?

Quit the band, chances are you're never gonna make it big anyway...

Um, sorry OP but you're a dumb ass. First of all "migraines" isn't a diagnosis, it's an explanation for the excruciating headaches you been getting. Second lights and sounds don't usually set them off. They're actually the LEAST common triggers. So you DON'T have to choose between the band and your health, because while migraines hurt, they don't cause any damage. Millions of people work through the every day. I have chronic migraines and have school, work, and friends that I have to deal with when I have a migraine. As far as choosing between the band and performing in extreme pain, that's up to you. But seeing as unless you have chronic migraines 1:they can generally be treated and 2: even if they can't, you won't get them all that often. I say stop being a pansy and stay in your band like a big boy would.
