I used to tip for takeout orders, but then I realized, when the cooks make the food and box it up and someone sets your bag down next to the bartender, why tip the bartender who does nothing but hand you the bag? I had to stand around waiting for him as he made drinks for tipping customers anyways. Tipping for takeout is nice but by no means necessary, and I don't know of anyone who expects it. Also, technically tipping poorly isn't going to make a difference in your service unless you come to that restaurant often. I don't know of any sit-down restaurants where you pay and tip before you eat. Maybe you'll piss the server off and someone else will get shitty service because of it, but you're likely already out the door. I tip well for dine-in and delivery, usually 20% or more, but if you don't refill my goddamn soda your tip is ticking down. Bad service you get a flat 10%.
Wait, what? Maybe everyone's already mentioned this, but I don't feel like reading through 184 comments. Why did you expect a tip for a take-out order? What did you do to deserve it? I completely understand and condone tipping waiters and waitresses who take orders, bring meals, refill water, ask how the food tastes, etc. But what did you do to deserve a tip? Walk two steps into the kitchen, grab the food, and walk back to the counter? I don't get it.
holy shit mnm! relax dude
I don't think that to go orders at any restaurant deserve a tip. Tips are for waiters who wait on you. I am sick of everyone who's in the service industry thinking that just cause you offer a minimum of customer service like a simple hi that you need to be tipped.
It's takeout, you don't get a tip. Douche.
here are my feelings on tips. if I order a 10 dollar meal, I will pay 10.60. that's 10.00 plus tax. if I order something for a certain ammount of money, and someone says I have to pay more than that, then I'm gonna laugh in that persons face. if a tip is required, then it's not a tip, it's called stealing. and for all of you who say "your an asshole for not paying more than you said you would" I don't care. you can throw your money away if you want
I don't understand why people try to cause problems on FML. Whoever you were calling a **** never said anything to provoke you. You just started to going off. Mind your own business and leave other people alone. Stick to commenting the post. B*tch. (@80)
all of you who think tipping is wrong need to go work in a restaraunt...
if thats your career then YDI for being a lazy sack at the bottom of the food chain

who the hell tips takeout? no one.
most people i know don't leave tips when they order food to go, i guess coz most of the work put into it was done by the cooks, not the waiter/waitress. or something like that.
