Today, I was doing takeout orders at the restaurant I work at. I spent a long while putting together this guy's $135.00 order. When he finally got there to pick it up, I told him to fill out the credit card slip. I looked at it after he left. He gave me a 40 cent tip. FML

most people i know don't leave tips when they order food to go, i guess coz most of the work put into it was done by the cooks, not the waiter/waitress. or something like that.

I don't tip for takeout, but for an order that large I'd give them something and more than 40 cents. I've always thought "required gratuity" was an oxymoron.

Here's a tip, either move to a country with better labour regulations/laws, get a non-tipping job, or stop your bitching. In the world outside of America, I expect good service. If it's anything above what your job requires you to do, i'll tip for your efforts. If it's poor service, I may put it down to a bad night or take my business elsewhere.

In case you couldn't tell snickerdoodles you're not funny.

lmao at people earning a few dollars an hour! get a real job. one where you don't need to rely on tips.

number 73 hit the nail right on the head. When you order from a resturant for take out, the only person who does any real work is the chefs. They get paid normal wages. boo hoo OP. You had to take a phone call and put an order in. Long story short, you still should have had the same amount of tables. And if your boss just has you only answering phones and bagging take out orders, then you should be paid a non tip wage. If you are doing that and getting paid the lower wage, then YDI for being an idiot.

Why yes your life does suck for living in the United States, where you're forced to live off tips because your employer isn't required to pay you a living wage.

I never tip on cary-out orders. I did not sit at your table and was not seved by you, however I always tip at least 20% when I eat in.

Servers in the states earn a little bit over $2.00 per hour. The wage varies state by state. Servers also have to tip out their support staff. Bartenders, bus staff, door and some places even the dish washers. Usually a percentage of their sales for the shift. They also pay taxes on the expected amount of tips that they are supposed to earn according to their sales. Therefore,,, if you stiff a server, they just had the pleasure of waiting on your useless ass and they had to pay for it out of their own pocket. If you can't afford to tip, don't go out. Go and get your Mc Food and leave the servers who work their @sses off alone. Stiffing a server is the same as stealing from them. As far as carry out goes, in most states that is not supposed to be added to your taxable sales. It is the establishments responsibility to ring these orders up on a separate key so no server gets stuck paying taxes on income that they did not receive.

That is bs right there. Tipping is not mandatory and until that time comes it's still at the discretion of the patron to leave whatever they want or don't want to.
