Today, I was giving a lecture to my class I heard a phone go off. Aggravated and exhausted, I asked everyone to turn their phones off. Then the phone rang again. I lost my shit and spent the next half hour calling my students a bunch of "technology whores". Then I realized the phone was mine. FML

I think you should have given everyone an F----- that's like below 0.

You totally deserved it. 100%. One of my profs has a good tactic against cell phones. If a cell phone goes off in the middle of class, there will be a quiz at the beginning of the next class for everyone, no exceptions. Well he did that for the Freshmen intro-level course last semester. I'm in a senior level course with him this semester and he doesn't do that, so I guess he simply has higher expectations for the upperclassmen he teaches.

It seems to happen a lot... my professors do it all the time

never lose your cool.. even if it were a student's phone, you still would've looked like an ass for screaming. you don't have to yell to be strict and enforce a no-cellphone policy.

Karma. I wonder what your kids said after you realized it was your phone.

Anyone else get the thought that this wasn't posted by the teach, but rather by a student slightly exaggerating the events that took place?

as a student i hated teachers that did that and as a teacher know still do so i try to follow the same rules as the students to me you just lost all there respect

You should apologize to your students..

Get off your high horse. Everyone forgets to turn their phone down once in a while, and you have no idea what might be happening on the other end of the line. There was a time I was texting in class because my dad had just been diagnosed with cancer and I was asking my sister for details while they were at the hospital. Getting up and leaving would have been far more distracting to other students than me sitting there silently looking at my phone.

It still doesn't matter. No one knows why you are texting and it is not the responsibility of the teacher to be aware of all your problems in your life. If you need "details" then you leave class.

Wouldn't that make YOU a technology *****? You're the one who's cell went off, AND the one who is posting this ONLINE.
