Today, I was kicked out of class for having a coughing fit. Yesterday, I was kicked out of class for sleeping, a side effect of my cough suppressant. Three absents from this class and I automatically fail. FML

No, I wasn't forcing the cough; I've got bronchitis, I just get coughing fits that last for a while and can't control them.

Should of checked to see if the medicine gave any side effects and then as you said make you fall asleep let him know of this and just let him know you can't come in due to the side effects of the medication

Talk to the school nurse and the student affairs office too. They should either help get you excused while you are sick or make the professor accommodate you by allowing you to sit in on the class.
