Today, I was late to work because the metro broke down. Yesterday I was late to work because the train in front of me broke down. The week before that I was late to work because the swat team shut the entire metro station down. Even the interns think I'm making this up. FML

if it happens again then just take a pic of u next to the broken down train or call ur boss and tell him/her y u r late and also take a pic of it

the max in portland is pretty bad too. they just introduced a new type of light rail train that is practically silent, and downtown (the train goes above ground mostly), there are no railroad crossings or anything, and the rail line goes right through some pedestrian walkways. tons of people have gotten run over or nearly so since they started putting the new train into service. plus, the trains almost always run 15 minutes late or even later on weekends, and at least once a week they shut down some major part of one of the lines for vague reasons. the other day they shut down service throughout all of downtown, and on friday the airport line was only operating in downtown and not actually going anywhere near the airport... @op: try and find some record of the unexpected delays online, or as somebody else suggested, if it happens again, take pictures.

I live in DC and metro to work as well, and the past week they've been breaking down left right and center, not to mention that track suicide. I try to slug in as much as possible now.

Yeah...I was late to work on Marta (Atlanta's answer to rush hour traffic) once because the tracks in front of the train were on fire. They never told us why this happened, or how it happened; we were just paused at the station for 30 minutes on the train. XD

Metro does suck, but some of us have no other option for getting to work. And Obviously OPs co-workers are not metro reliant if they don't believe those stories. Anyone who rides Metro regularly knows that crap just happens. If you're lucky enough to have cell phone signal in the tunnels, call your boss and tell them you're stuck.
