Today, I was lecturing my high school students on the importance of a good education. I pointed out the janitor in the hall and told them if they didn't stay in school, they'd end up like him. Then one of my students raised her hand and reminded me that the janitor I pointed to was her dad. FML

Ydi. A lot of people end up with jobs like that because they can't get anything better and at least they have a job.

Serves you right, OP. Why would you even say that? At least he ha s a job, you're not better than him or anyone else who does "dirty work".

So you're teaching your students that if you have a manual labor job, you have failed at life and are worthless. You, sir, are a dick.

You should clean up after your students so you know how much you depend on the janitors in your school.

You're a teacher in the States, chances are that the janitor's making pretty close to the same wage as you.... And he didn't have to go through 8 years post-secondary to get there.

In most states, you only need a Bachelors Degree to teach @ the HS level. That would be 2 years post secondary - we're teachers, not surgeons!

Even if the janitor wasn't a student's father, you'd still be an insensitive, judgmental, jerk. Who's to say he didn't see and hear you making him the example of someone who was uneducated? I'd be appalled to find out my children were being "taught" (if you can call it that) anything by you.

Wow. Let me tell you a little story My father, who was a janitor worked harder than anyone I know everyday in my life. Even though he didn't have some office job with high pay, he gave me more love than money could ever buy. He was always there for me, came to all my ball games, went to all my meetings and sacrificed so much just so I could have a better life then he did. Then when time came college, my JANITOR father surprised me with 8 grand that he's been saving for my education. Yeah, the janitor did that. So **** you and you're judgemental ways.

Education is overrated, I'm a Profesional and know a lot of dumbass people with college degrees and MY mom is one of the smartest person I know and because of life's turns wasn't able to have an education and works as a janitor. OP that was the worst example you could pick… YDI

I swear there was an FML in the student's perspective a while back

You are so ignorant I can't believe you're a teacher. One of the principals at a high school I spoke to said she was so sad to see that many applicants for janitors had degrees, highest one being PhD. Don't judge before you know the whole story.

Glad you were also teaching them ignorance and judgmentalitty

YDI, that was rude, it probably wasn't his fault, he could have a degree for all you know.
