Today, I was lecturing my high school students on the importance of a good education. I pointed out the janitor in the hall and told them if they didn't stay in school, they'd end up like him. Then one of my students raised her hand and reminded me that the janitor I pointed to was her dad. FML

Ydi. A lot of people end up with jobs like that because they can't get anything better and at least they have a job.

Serves you right, OP. Why would you even say that? At least he ha s a job, you're not better than him or anyone else who does "dirty work".

You should be thankful for all of the janitors. It's because of them busting their asses that you have a clean classroom to teach in. Unless you'd like to clean it yourself. YDI.

Not everyone can get a job that pays more than $20/h. It's impossible! Who would do all those minimum wage jobs? If everyone went to university they wouldn't all have high paying jobs some would have to suck it up except the job market is way flooded and become a cashier. I went to college to become a hairdresser, wanna know what I make 10.50/h after spending 11,000 on my education. But that's why you marry someone you love who makes 4x that. Do you even understand how difficult job searching is OP?

YDI for being a douchebag. I'm 99.9% sure that you're one of the people that thinks if you aren't a doctor, lawyer, algebra teacher or accountant you're basically a failure.

What a horrible thing to say. You should be ashamed of yourself.

There's no shame in having a job.

How are you even allowed to say that in a school? You should be encouraging the children to do their best and find a career they may be good at enjoy, not telling them they have to do it your way. It is exactly this kind of attitude that pushes people who have specific skills and could really do great in vocational jobs such as plumbing or whatever away from the idea of school and work altogether. They end up thinking that it's university or nothing and end up dropping out and on benefits. You're lucky you didn't get disciplined for having such a poor attitude and understanding of what the economy needs and how children develop.
