as a person certified in those two software's, I can say that they are really need to make proper graphics, especially vector images
Their loss.
OK. The fact that the company let you go is bullshit. They should have provided that for you. But...since nobody seems to have said it yet...why couldn't you just torrent it or find a free/cracked version? That's what I would have done. Business is business.
Oh man...that sucks! that' s the same thinking behind hiring a janitor and expecting them to buy their own cleaning supplies. Or expecting the car salesman to build his own cars. Give your employees the tools they need, otherwise you are the tool they don't need.
Why didn't you use freeware stuff?
Sounds like a "clients from hell" story. Karma will get them when every other person in that job will request them or deliver horrible work without.
Absent more context, YDI. "Marketing materials" could be anything from a simple flyer to elaborate advertising - the former doesn't require Adobe tools. Also, we don't know if the OP is even a graphic designer. Lastly, getting fired *only* for making a request is highly unlikely. What else happened?
For those saying to use Gimp, it's really not suggested in the graphic world. She requested Illustrator as it does Vector art (meaning no pixels so it can be enlarged and be just as crisp looking) and Photoshop since they're compatible. I'm not sure what program the company was expecting her to use, but it's definitely not going to look as good if they don't use the proper program... Unless they hire someone who owns the programs in advance, but usually they'd pay more for someone who comes with the tools in hand. Unless they're not so smart about how this business works, which is what it sounds like from this FML. Though I agree, it's not your dream job if they turned you down for not supplying you the tools you needed. However there are still plenty of other opportunities that can come up. Don't give up hope, OP! Graphic designers are needed for just about everything now a days~

Most companies want the work to be done quickly and efficiently but don't want to pay for the tools to properly do them! Don't tolerate cheap companies like that, find the one that gives you the proper tools to do your job properly! I have faith in you and good luck!
Well screw them. Let their marketing be trash stick figures drawn by idiots. Don't waste your talents/skills on them. I'm sure someone as professional as you will easily get the job at a better nicer company.
