your son can't identify it is exactly your dog from digging up a few bones...just say it was a squirrel or something
uhmm.... maybe you should have had him digging somewhere else, or at least know better than to let him dig at all
Way to lie to your kid. Ugh.
Just tell your kid about dying. It's not like a 5 year old can't handle something that's completely inevitable to all living things. I had plenty animals who died when I was younger, and my parents just told me about what happened. Sure, I was sad. But you shouldn't tell a lie because you're afraid your kid would get sad or is too young to understand. They shouldn't be shielded from something like this.
Death is something you NEVER lie about. It's an important lesson, and pets are the gateway to learning about this, because eventually, their grandparents are gonna meet the same fate, and you don't wanna go through every time I've heard "Why are they burying him, he can't (do what they usually do here) if you do that to him!" at their funeral. D:
just tell him the truth, dont hide him from this kind of shit. telling him the truth will only make him stronger or when he grows up he'll be a real clueless wuss.

Perhaps you should have buried the dog further down... he must've been awfully close to the surface if your son was able to reach the bones with a plastic shovel.
And this is why we shouldn't lie to our kids about dumb stuff. They can handle the truth.
