Well, guess what? The world can be a harsh, crappy place. If you don't want to be harassed by assholes, and you live in a place with a lot of assholes, then don't walk alone, and sure as hell don't bait them. And sure, it'll still happen, and that's where my sympathies begin. The law, and other people, *should* be there to try to make things better. But to say that human nature is ever going to change is just dreaming. It's not fair, but that's the way it is. It's human nature at it's basest. This has been studied over and over. Most of us are vulnerable to it (being the asshole) when we think there won't be any consequences. The old guy, here, is OLD. He doesn't give a shit anymore whether or not he freaks her out or gets arrested. He wants to put his hand on a smooth leg while he's still alive. I'm sure she doesn't appreciate it, but old men aren't ever, ever, ever going to change. Women have their own foibles at various ages. Teenage girls will always, always, ALWAYS pick the worst schmuck in the world to bring home for a boyfriend, just to piss off their parents. I have two daughters, and I can already tell that one of them is going to do this. It's just our nature. Getting upset about it just prevents you from dealing with it. Playing it up as a big social issue that needs to be resolved is a waste of time, not because it was okay for them to do, but because it's an unsolvable problem.
