I don't understand why so many people are telling op to go to a bar. We don't know why he's lonely. If he suffers from social anxiety it's a crippling affect just being around other people. A stranger talking to them face to face could just send them running back home.

Agreed 100%. There are a million reasons why going to an extremely social setting and getting drunk might not be the best way to solve OP's problem.
