Today, I was taken to my first session with my psychiatrist. The entirety of the facility, from the waiting room to the doc's office was decorated with dead butterflies in glass. I was there for my crippling mottephobia, the irrational fear of moths and butterflies. FML

Today, I found out I have an incredible fear of butterflies. I discovered this after my mother took me to a butterfly sanctuary for some "mother-daughter bonding time." FML

Today, my boyfriend found out about my severe phobia of moths. It's so bad that I sometimes pass out. He caught a moth in a jar, and put it on my bedside table. I woke up, saw it, and had a panic attack. He recorded it all and wants to upload it to YouTube. FML

Today, I was squeezed through an overly-crowded hallway down to my psychologist's. There, I sat in an overly-crowded waiting room to see him, next to an obese woman and an insane man. I finally entered the smaller-than-a-closet room. My reason for seeing a psychologist? Claustrophobia. FML

Today, I went to see a therapist for help with my severe fear of spiders. The therapist held a big spider in a box inches away from my face. I ran to the back of the room and asked him why. He responded with, "Aren't therapists supposed to help you face your fears?" I'm paying $150 an hour. FML

Today, my family decided it would be hilarious to catch the biggest moths they could and let them loose in my room. I'm terrified of moths and they thought it would be "funny as hell" to watch me freak out. FML

Today, I was attempting to teach a bunch of 2nd and 5th graders on why it's so important to face your fears and try your best. It was going pretty well, until I was attacked by a pair of butterflies. I am afraid of butterflies - I ran away screaming like a little girl. FML

Panic at the crosswalk

Today, I literally stopped traffic. I was crossing the street and a butterfly landed on me. Being phobic of butterflies, I had a panic attack in the middle of the road. Oh, and I am 17, captain of our football team, and in very good shape. My girlfriend laughed the hardest. FML

Today, there's a moth in my house, who either does nothing, or flies around like it just ate enough sugar for one lifetime. Every time I see it, I think it's a wasp and, being deathly afraid of them, I go into a full-blown panic attack until the sight of it bumping into light bulbs brings me back to reality. FML

Today, I told my mom about the severe phobia I've developed towards driving. She was very supportive and even made me an appointment to see a psychologist. His office is two hours away. I have to drive to see my doctor about my fear of driving. FML

They're harmless and mind their own damn business. That's what makes the fear of them irrational. It's okay to be afraid of things like poisonous snakes or allergic reaction causing insects such as bees, which is rational fear. But a ******* butterfly? No. People can't control what they're afraid of, so no one can really be mad at OP for having an irrational fear. I personally think this FML is an FYL.

I'm just trying to make myself feel better here. :c I know the fear is pretty damn irrational and people called me crazy for it many times, but dude, those things are disgusting.

Wow. Someone probably already commented this but maybe they were there just for you, or maybe that psychiatrist specializes in this fear. You'd think that a psychiatrist's office would be really blank to keep things calm. Either way, I think you'll do fine.

I could see maybe using this as a method of exposure therapy, but this person was being rather extreme for a first session. I'm thinking OP is just the victim of a not-so-great coincidence. When it comes to irrational fears, they're just that - irrational. So it's hard to proof your office against all phobias. I mean, there are even people with a fear of the color yellow.
