Today, I was taken to my first session with my psychiatrist. The entirety of the facility, from the waiting room to the doc's office was decorated with dead butterflies in glass. I was there for my crippling mottephobia, the irrational fear of moths and butterflies. FML

That is kind of a creepy idea; decorating the place with dead animals

Being forced to face your fears might just help you overcome them. Just remember OP, they're dead and sealed so they cant hurt you... Unless that place goes through a zombie butterfly outbreak!

Your phobia suggests a fear of change caused by bad experiences in the past. If you trust this psychiatrist, show them yr FML. If not, look for one you can trust. if you want sympathy here for yr problem you will stay stuck. Good luck - you clearly have the courage it takes to start yr new life.

That's not necessarily so. Phobias can be there for no reason, such as mine. I have a fear of blood and a lot of parts of anatomy with no prior incident to induce that. It's just a chemical imbalance in the brain.

Lepidopterophobia is the irrational fear of butterflies. If you are afraid of mounted, dead butterflies you probably do have that phobia. Find a new doctor. There are so many psychiatrists in the world that it isn't worth having a panic attack just to visit a particular doctor. If you don't feel safe, therapy will never work.

That isn't irony, that is a coincidence. Irony is sarcasm that is dramatic/verbally spoken OR irony has a reversal. There is no reversal here, just a coincidence. A reversal would be crashing and crawling to what you think is safety, only to get ran over by the ambulance for crawling off the scene.

Sponge Bob Square Pants: Wormy, is that you?

bikini bottom: home of tv's first mottephobes.

all the "out there" people I knew in high school ended up studying head shrinking in college. I guess tuition was cheaper than the therapy they needed. just find another doctor. One who does not keep dead bugs in jars. and if they try to prescribe psychiatric drugs - find yet another doctor. too many "doctors" these days are just legal drug dealers and pill pushers!

They're trying to desensitize you.
