Today, I was talking to my mom about how my fiancé has been ignoring me and that I didn't know why. Turns out, my mother told him that I was too much of a handful, was mentally disturbed and also cheating on him. Just so I wouldn't move out and would keep cleaning her house for free. FML

Today, I overheard my mom’s boyfriend viciously berating and verbally abusing her. I got in his face and started yelling that he can’t talk to her that way. Today, I was busy going over wedding plans with my fiancé, when my mother called. Apparently, she wants me to "drop the joke" about this "fake engagement", because she was under the impression I was only dating a white guy to piss her and dad off, and was now getting carried away with it. FML

Today, I called my mom to see how she was doing. She quickly hijacked the conversation and said that she's signed me up for a dating site, because she feels bad that I can't find a decent man. I've been dating my boyfriend for seven months, and she's seen me with him multiple times. FML

She might still be with her mother because of the economy. A lot of people can't afford to live alone. It could also be because her mother needs assistance or has a dangerous medical condition. Or the mum might even be guilt-tripping her daughter into staying. There are tons of good reasons people would continue living with their parents. In fact, that's the norm in most Asian cultures, and you know, they make up about 40% of the world's population. And it's not that uncommon in Europe, South America and Africa. The US is weird.
