That was nice of you but you should've assured her that you're not a strong guy and thus not able to push a wheelchair with a person in it.
Aww, OP, at least you tried. Not much you can do about her hurt feelings, now, I guess. Don't let it deter you from being a good person, though! There aren't enough guys like you around.
And when are you going to start pushing me up hills in wheelchairs, Kiz? c:
But then... why would the girl cry? If she knew he was a midget, she would know its not her weight. #commonsense
The FML clearly states the reason she was crying. #specsavers
I dont think you can mistake tears of laughter for real sadness. Unless OP has the IQ of a donkey. #owned
LOL good attempt. But if i was a donkey, that would make you a Foal. #beastialitymom
What the **** is this thread?
This is why she should have 4 wheel drive...
Was it really that you were weak or is it just because it was slippery? Without traction I doubt your strength mattered. You may have taken on an impossible task, which makes this FML even sadder than it already sounds.
It really depends on what type of wheelchair it was, because some wheelchairs are pretty heavy, especially if it's an electric wheelchair.
People in wheelchairs are surprisingly heavier than you'd expect. I have to use one from time to time - usually use crutches - and even my boyfriend, who is a 6', muscular guy gets a bit fatigued trying to push me up a ramp. And I'm not that heavy! It also depends on the type of wheelchair - the shitty ones we get at the mall are harder to push than a good quality one from a medical supply store. I don't own my own wheelchair, and the mall ones are about as bad as some shopping carts. At least you treated her like a human being. When I'm in a wheelchair, half the world acts like I'm part of the machinery, the other half patronizes me by refusing to speak to me and instead conversing with my boyfriend or parents. This is especially frustrating when I ASK A QUESTION and they address the person pushing me. I'm crippled, not deaf!
Too. Lazy. To. Read. lol :P
Just read it and now i feel like a complete dick :( Sorry!
Read and understood. On your part, try to understand that they are uncomfortable with dealing with your handicap. That doesn't make it right, but both sides need to understand and deal with the situation. I use a cane which isn't too bad, but I have had two back surgeries. The next one may put me in a wheelchair. I just hope it's not too hard...
Wheelchairs are stupid heavy...my best friends wife was in one part time and going on long trips we would pack it...getting that thing in and out of my trunk? Or trying to get past anything without a ramp? Its awful...and she was tiny too so I totally get what you're saying. And **** those people who don't treat you well!
It's not so bad - most of the time I use forearm crutches, or on a really good day, a cane. It's been a while since I've had a good day, plus it's winter, which makes being outside precarious for healthy people. I try not to let ignorant people get to me - I usually gently correct them, some people do get flustered around me. They also get confused when I get up out of my wheelchair and take a few steps around unassisted (I can do that - I don't often use my crutches around my home, everything I need is max ten steps away, it's sustaining walking that's hard for me - I have Lupus, and some neurological balance issues as well as some nasty arthritis). Some people just don't know, and that's fine - I don't mind explaining, if asked. I have had an old asshole at the mall accuse me of being a 'rotten kid' and taking a wheelchair just for fun. My boyfriend was livid. I'm 26 - boyfriend is 30, but I do look younger than I am (I've looked exactly the same since 10th grade, people mistake me for around 20). People who get uppity and snap at me without knowing anything, or get pissed off after I explain my condition, can just go get ******. It's hard enough being disabled in my city - it's just plain not built for accessibility, only newer buildings are - without having to deal with jerks. :)
if only people could put their insecurities away for a while
Probably literally the saddest and most FYL-ish FML on this site. :'(
