Today, I was working retail when a group of older gentlemen came in looking for a good sound system. I showed them a top-range system and gushed about it in detail, trying to close the sale. One of them snorted and said, "See Dave, girls like her are the reason ball gags were invented." FML

Today, I was trying sell a customer a top-of-the-line surround sound system. Apparently he was aware that I work on commission, as he threatened to buy the system elsewhere unless I sang Rebecca Black's "Friday" in front of the whole store. Goodbye, self-respect. FML

Today, a customer came into the music shop I work in to look at guitars. After calling the customer "Dude," and "Man," numerous times, they stalked off suddenly. When I asked if everything was okay, they responded with, "I'm female, you asshole!" FML

Today, I was at the store when I saw two extremely hot girls. I walked into their aisle and they looked at me and smiled. I stopped and pretended to look at something so I could listen to what they were saying. They started laughing and walked away. It turned out I was reading a box of tampons. FML

Today, while out shopping, I could hear what sounded like two grown men talking about me, and they were being pretty gross. I turned around to scold them and it turned out being a dad and his 13-year-old son. He said he was, "teaching a son to be a man", and that my ass was "grounds for discussion." FML

I am definitely going to get thumbed down but screw it; I am going to assume that you are a commission pay sales person since you stated that you wanted to close the sale, I am also going to assume that the customer wasn't actively engaged in a conversation with you about the system but rather you were rattling off everything that you knew about the system to "impress" the customer or whoever rather than talking with the customer about what exactly he was looking for and wanted to find him the best system for his needs. So even though the comment was rude I still say that it was a 'you deserved it' for not shutting up and listening to the customer until he had to say something rude to get your attention.

I hear what you're saying but they asked, she answered, and as a former retail worker (as many of us are or have been), specifically in electronics, I can say that customers generally want a lot of of specific information and they'd prefer not to have to google the shit out of everything. OP probably doesn't get commissions anyway; few electronics and retail stores in general do these days.

Customers do want a lot specific information but when you ask about a product most customers will generally like to know a few specific points about the product, if they inform the sales person about what they are needing the product to do they will probably just want to know about how it will fill their needs, not every single function of the product in detail. If the customer gives the sales person a general idea of what they want then it is part of the sales person's job to figure out what it is that they customer is looking for and what they need by asking questions and talking with the customer not just talking to or at the customer; which I am going to assume the OP did since one of the men piped up with the comment which probably wouldn't have happened if the OP was asking and answering questions with the customer. In my earlier comment I should have added that the OP could also have sales goals to meet, not just that she is paid by commission, and that could be why she was gushing about the system in detail to close the sale.

But I could counter-assume that they said nothing to her and didn't ask questions, but rather stared expectantly. Perhaps their look mean stop but I'd the first string of big-kid words to come out f their mouths are full of douchebaggery then it's their fault for not specifying or saying "I'll look around alone, thank you" Frankly we could beat around the bush 'till the cows come home, but the fact is neither of us was there or knows anything else to solidify our assumptions. I think I'm more inclined to believe that customers can be super crazy and rude and no matter what I don't think there's an excuse for such a rude comment, but that's just my personal deal.
