The crime he committed was probably just a misdemeanor. In this day and age walking on the wrong persons grass can get you arrested. He might not be such a "bad boy" after all.

Misdemeanor's include theft, DUII, and Assault (depending on the level), just to name a few. So just because it's a misdemeanor, doesn't mean it's no big deal. Also a lot of people on probation/parole/supervision reoffend, so prove to him you aren't. If this was my daughter, knowing all the facts, there is probably no way I'd be happy about this. I'd also know that there's was little to be done, if my daughter was of age, but to just watch and worry. Sucks for you OP, but it sucks for dad more.

How can you wish all murderers and rapists be locked in jail? If they can't pay bail/lawyer and get out, then they pay with time instead of money and then they get out and they are normal citizens again - just like you and me. Don't try substitute the spirit of the law for your corny idea of locking people up when they might have more money than you.
