Today, I went to see Terminator. Not wanting to spend an outrageous amount of money at the concession stand, I sneaked a Dr. Pepper into the theater. I thought I had gotten away with it, until I opened the bottle and it exploded all over me and four other people that I didn't know. FML

thats why i always tip the bottom of the can before opening it, so that it doesnt explode.

It's considered illegal if it's their rules to not allow it. It's just like any other crime. Stealing from a grocery store causes them to lose money. You bringing in outside food and or beverages causes the movies to lose money. And the reason for the high movie prices... (I used to work there) the theatre only gets 10 percent of the money made off of movies. And they only get that 10 percent if the movie sells a certain amount set by the hollywood buffs.

Pshh, FYL for having seen Terminator. That movie was pretty lame.

@#1, i dont think he saw the movie, they probably beat him up

#84 is right, but the percentages are a little off. I manage a movie theater and on big movies we quite often pay 70% of each ticket pack to the production company. So assuming a theater makes $10,000 one week (just using an easy #) on a movie, they have to send out $7000 and keep $3000 for themselves. Factor in all the costs involved for the theater (staff, utilities, taxes, their cost on the product they sell and the fact that a projector takes about $15 worth of electricity each time it plays a movie) and they're in the negative. We even pay for licenses just because there is music in the movies. Granted more screens means more money, but again, they're paying percentages on each movie, need more staff, so on and so forth. As much as I can sympathize with not wanting to pay $5 for what is essentially $0.50 worth of pop, it's a necessary evil for them to keep their doors open. That is literally where all the money is made. Theaters are basically concession businesses that use movies to lure people in. So I really don't feel bad taking stuff away from people. I have made people throw out un-opened cups of coffee, bottles of water, slurpees....you name it. The other night, I made some 18 year old kids watch as I dumped the 6 beer they tried to sneak in down the sink.

We have a drive-in theatre here. Three screens, each shows two, newly released movies each night. The price of an adult admission is less than the daytime ticket of the adult admission for the regular theatre. Their candy bars are $.50, you can get two hamburgers for $1 (obviously part soy but still burgers), a large pizza for $6. Their concession line is always closed packed and they have to chase people away when they close it before the movies end. If the regular theatres charged decent prices, they'd make a much larger profit because more people would buy things, and they would buy more. That's the foundation of wal-mart, Sam's club, and Aldi's. It wasn't that long ago that Sam Walton was the richest man in America, as the result of his Walmart chain, and that was before walmart had spread across the USA

No one cares if you sneak in drinks.
