Well, you could have always asked her parents what else she was getting or if she was interested in anything specific. That being said, generally a Barbie is great for an 8yr old girl and your niece sounds like an ungrateful, spoiled brat. So fyl for sure. I guess next year just don't bother. It doesn't sound like you're that close anyways, so if she's not going to be polite, you shouldn't waste your money. Sounds harsh, but child or not, someone needs to teach her not to act like that. She could easily have said thank you and then secretly exchanged it for something else if she didn't care for it. At least then your money still would have went towards something she enjoyed.

Don't worry OP. Certain kids are just raised differently. Some are into barbies and playing house still and some are given the luxury of having electronics and are not raised with good manners. It's not your fault and don't take it personally.

wtf okay obviously this little girl who is around my own nieces age has been raised on Tech but why haven't her parents taught her you accept a gift without complaining as you didn't have to get her anything FYL for having a sibling who doesn't teach their child good values
