Today, I went to visit some family out of state for my niece's birthday. I couldn't think of what to get an 8-year-old so I got her a Barbie doll. Everyone else got her money, iPods, game consoles, etc. When she got to mine she asked "how do I turn it on?" Then threw it away when she couldn't. FML

I honestly hate this generation. Sadly, I'm part of it.

You're part of a superior generation if you hate today's generation. Not sure what superior is though...

I sure hope the parents corrected that behavior. That's pathetic

what the ****! this generation needs a change

Pretty sure you gave the correct gift, the girl is just a spoiled brat

Ugh.. I'd have beat her ass for, one: throwing away a brand new gift, and two: being an ungrateful little shit. My 3-year-old doesn't get any expensive crap like that, the biggest gift she's gotten was a bike and the only "electronic" toy she has is a Tag reader pen. Educational shit ftw. She won't be getting any iPods or iPhones or game consoles of her own till she's much older because she doesn't need them. Kids these days are so spoiled.. It's just ridiculous. Ugh ugh ugh.

This is so sad. I didn't get a cell phone or an iPod till high school. "In my day" we used our imagination. It's like all this new technology has sucked the imagination out of the kids.

Ungrateful little brat. Don't get anything for her in future.

That is so messed up. I still get happy when I get sock

I mean it was rude of her to throw it away, but you should have asked her parents what she'd like, or just went with a gift card or cash. Can't go wrong with money. I'm torn on this one.

It doesn't matter if the kid had been given a toy she didn't want, a pair of ugly socks, whatever. When someone gives you a present, you smile and say thank you. Clearly her parents never bothered to teach her manners.

If you blindly pick something out for someone, there's a chance they won't like it. As I said it was rude and ungrateful of her, but if you're in doubt, just give a gift card. If she complains about that, then there's something wrong. OP didn't deserve the reaction, but then again they chose a gift on the hopes it would be something an 8 year old girl would like.
