Today, I went to visit some family out of state for my niece's birthday. I couldn't think of what to get an 8-year-old so I got her a Barbie doll. Everyone else got her money, iPods, game consoles, etc. When she got to mine she asked "how do I turn it on?" Then threw it away when she couldn't. FML

Kids these days are so ungrateful, it makes me sick

that is terrible. I can only imagine how hurt your feelings must be OP. that was mean of your niece. I guess now you know that she's more tech savvy... I'd buy her a giftcard next time.

I'm almost 23 and I'd be thrilled to get a Barbie. :3

I'm 21 and I would like it too. I still have most of my Barbies and dolls (though I don't play with them anymore)... ;)

I for one can't wait for my son to get a few years older. Because then ill have an excuse to build a pillow fort again.

Should have given her a pack of batteries and a card with a note saying "Toys not included"

Ok... When I was 8 my parents got me a princess book. They knew I hated princesses too.

If it doesn't spend or have an off/on switch, kids don't want it! Ridiculous! I'm older than most of you, I was happy to get dolls! I had an imagination. Something that's missing from today's kids!

A kid who can't play. That's the saddest thing I've ever heard. Remember bark boats and pine cone animals with toothpicks for legs? That was one generation ago...

Even if she didn't like the gift, she could've humored OP. It's the thought that counts. OP, next time don't get her anything. She needs to learn to be appreciative.

That's the last present she would get from me! I learned very young that it doesn't matter if its just a card, you still better say thanks and act like its the best card ever. Smh...
