I go to tanning salons all of the time with my white friends and I get weird looks just from being there haha. But I hear the same thing about spray tanning giving darker people a "glow" so try it out.

They should have a separate prize for that case if not that wasn't planned very well

Stuff like this needs to be publicised, why not invite your local paper to pick up on it and make fun of the stupid contest people? Then maybe next time they'll think twice about assuming that everyone who enters will be white because that's the default setting for human beings.
