Today, it's been five days since I started my new job in a new town, and just signed the lease on my new apartment too. Now I find out the company's closing down, and since I'm still on probation, I'm told I'm not entitled to any kind of severance. FML

Check the laws in your area, they could be held liable for damages since you uprooted yourself on the condition that you had a job, a sort of contract even if you didn't sign any official papers.

aw that's horrible OP. Hopefully you can either find a new job or maybe be able to break the lease. Theres always ways to break them, check the contract.

Why would they bring on a new hire if the future looked bleak? With decision making like that, no wonder the doors are closing. Hang in there OP, you will land a better job soon.

That is terrible. See if there's any way you can void the lease. It's not your fault the company hired you at the wrong time. If they were having issues they shouldn't of brought you on board to begin with. Therefore they should be responsible for any extra expenses you will have.

Why would they hire you if they were gonna close down? That's so shitty.

That's awful op. Hope everything works out for you.

But why would u watch that at first place.... Karma I guess

You shouldn't have taken such big steps before settling down with the new job--the first three months is called "probation period" for good reasons. But my sympathies for you, I sincerely hope you will get a better job soon.

Was he supposed to live in his car for the first 3 months?
