Today, it's been five days since I started my new job in a new town, and just signed the lease on my new apartment too. Now I find out the company's closing down, and since I'm still on probation, I'm told I'm not entitled to any kind of severance. FML

Dude that sucks. Shouldnt they have alerted you of that before you moved into the apartment there?

They shouldn't have someone MOVE for a job they can't guarantee will be there even a week. They should have warned you. If your job lasted five days, they knew they were gonna shut down before they even hired you. Sue the scum for misrepresentation

You might have legal options. If they hired you knowing that the company was in closure, you could possibly sue for damages depending on your state... Do they at least offer some kind of outplacement assistance?

OP, you could sue to recover restitutionary damages and possibly reliance damages. Find a lawyer!

This kind of bullshit is the reason why there are so many bums in the walmart parkng lot.

clearly there's not a lot of communication amongst management you don't hire people just before you shut down

This is the beginning to Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23
