I have had it twice so it is possible; once when I was a kid and again this past year. The second time around was by far the worst, leaving me hospitalised for a while and then put in bed rest for weeks afterward. OP: Get rest, be careful that your spleen or liver doesn't rupture, and then find a new job. Mono can last for months.
they said twice IN ONE YEAR, not twice in op's life
how do you get it twice?
You can definitely get mono twice. Technically once you've been infected you carry the virus for the rest of your life (rather like herpes). Most of the time the virus is dormant and you are not contagious. However, if your immune system is compromised due to high stress and a different illness (like a cold or flu) you can have a relapse and experience all those classic mono symptoms again. I know two separate people who have had this happen, and a hockey player for an NHL team has been out multiple times because it keeps flaring back up.
That totally sucks. Your employer didn't even ask for a doctor's note? I mean even though it's unlikely, it doesn't make it impossible. On the other hand, if he wanted to fire you because of that, he was probably just looking for an excuse. Hopefully you can get some compensation from being fired(depending on where you live?).
Considering what you have to do to contract glandular fever, YDI. Also, considering that your personal life is having a negative effect on your work performance, they have every right to fire you, doctor's note or not. If you don't like it, then you know what to do. You ultimately have no one to blame but yourself.
It's spread through saliva. There are plenty of ways to contract it. There are the common way, (kissing, sharing drinks, etc) but there a bunch of other ways that you could potentially come in contact with it. If someone coughs directly in the air you breath, dipping a french fry in ketchup that someone else double-dipped in, eating off the same plate (even with separate utensils, your saliva will still touch either some of the food, or the plate) and according to a few websites sharing pillows, although I'm not too sure about that last one.
you can get mono twice cus ive had it twice its very rare but it does happen and when you have mono it sucks and working is impossible depending on how bad you get it. i was basically dead for 3 weeks when i got it my first time
Who cares what it is called and also, people, you are online. Look up the ******* disease on Wikipedia. Talk about being lazy. Op, I am sorry. But you have mono, and while most people have already been exposed to mono and thus have antibodies against it already, and have it in their saliva and can pass it on, even when not sick with it, you still are in no place to be socializing, or online. Sure it sucks, but people don't want your disease, its been two weeks. I am sorry, but can you blame people?
"you still are in no place to be socializing, or online" I'm sorry, didn't realise you could catch mono via internet..??

I had mono and it's horrible. People shouldn't act like that. You don't even do anything and you get it. And you can only get it once in most cases. Fyl indeed for having people in your life who don't understand. And first, who cares If your first? And then you add ew? You're lucky you've never had it.
its called a doctors note!
