Today, it's officially been two weeks since I found out I have mono. It's also been two weeks since anyone has visited me, called me, or even emailed me. The real kicker? I'm now fired from my job because they can't believe I can have mono twice in one year. I guess I'm just lucky that way. FML

I had mono and it's horrible. People shouldn't act like that. You don't even do anything and you get it. And you can only get it once in most cases. Fyl indeed for having people in your life who don't understand. And first, who cares If your first? And then you add ew? You're lucky you've never had it.

You can only get mono once you can't get it twice you retard... YOU EFFING DESERVED IT!

OK, I have had Mono and while you can't get it more than once, you CAN relapse. It is the most sick I have ever been in my life. I was out of work for a month. Mono is no joke. And no one cared to visit or call me either.

umm it's medically impossible to get mono (I.e. a virus) twice.

You definitely can't get mono more than once. You can get mono, and you can get something else SIMILAR to mono that isn't the same thing. Just because you're sick doesn't mean you can label it as "mono", and if the doctor who diagnosed you told you it was mono and knew that you had already had it, it's time to find a new doctor...preferably one who has a medical degree. In any case, you're an idiot.

See my above comments. Then we'll see who's an idiot. Most viruses have a chance of relapse, including mono and herpes (and yes, chicken pox is a form of the herpes virus, as is its adult version (shingles)...in fact, having chicken pox as a child makes you MORE likely to have an outbreak of shingles as an adult).

Each of those links has a section describing the recurring mononucleosis virus. And as a parting shot...YOU are an idiot. DUH A DURRRRRR.

Actually, you can't get shingles if you haven't had chicken pox

Huh. I did not know that. My aunt got a case of shingles the other week, and she swears she never had chicken pox as a child. Hmm...I'm guessing she got the virus, then, but never had the sores or symptoms of the chicken pox, and it went unnoticed until the shingles flared up. The more you know, yeah? :)

you can get fired with a doctors note. In some states (I can't see where op is via iPhone) you don't have to be given a reason for being fired. I lived in a state like that at one point and was fired for having to go to the doctor for diabetic testing. The boss told me "I don't need no sick people working for me!" I tried to pursue a lawsuit and learned Indiana is a state where they can do that. Sorry op. That does suck!

Actually, you don't get mono more than once. It's a virus so you get it once and it's yours forever. It might flare up time to time and you can spread it but symptoms will be gone for good. At least one of those times it was something else. FYL for not having friends though.

that's not necessarily true. While you keep the mono virus in your body forever, your body has built the antibodies necessary to keep it in check. If your immune system is compromised due to prolonged stress or illness then it may resurface. I know someone who got mono and for some reason was completely unable to form the white blood cells necessary to fight it. He ended up being put on some sort of medication that I guess simulates it and keeps it in check. He was in the hospital for months.

I must say this is one of the stupidest FMLs I've ever read.

Obviously, you've never had mono. It is a HORRIBLE, debilitating virus that can have full-blown symptoms for over a month, especially if you are older, and you are pretty much incapacitated for months after that. There are three strains of mono, and you can catch each one once. So no, it's not impossible for the OP to have gotten it twice in a year. And its ****** up that no one is helping the OP. That's like leaving a disabled elderly person all alone to fend for his/herself, because that's what mono is like, it feels like you are OLD and you physically can't do anything. I was fortunate to have my mom around when I fell sick because like the OP my friends are shitty. I couldn't even get up by myself. I couldn't even eat. I was in the hospital for a full week for crying out loud, OP - don't even bother with those people anymore. They aren't friends. It sucks about your job...I guess the best thing to do would be to send a doctor's note and see if they will rehire you. Pretty idiotic for an employer NOT to know that it's possible to get mono 3 times! Hope you get better soon. As a precaution, since you still have one more strain of mono you can catch, wash your hands very well before touching your hands to your mouth, that is how the virus can be spread.

you play that game too! can't wait till we get a game staring edgeworth.

it comes out in April...the edgeworth game

thts not possible u can only ever have mono once u r contaigous possibly forever though mybe thts y u will get a pink slip

To the OP...you might have lymes or Epstein barr(an off shoot disease of mono)

ok i have mono, like right now, this very second. And its not that bad, also you can only get it once. I looked it up in some massive medical dictionary. stop complaining, i got it really bad, its made my liver go all funny, only 5% of all people who get mono get this. oh and its only passed through spit
