Today, I was chatting with a friend on msn. She told me a few days ago a Halloween party we had been planning was canceled because her parents said no at the last moment. Wanting to cheer her up, I went to her house to surprise her. I guess the party wasn't canceled after all. FML

Why is it so hard to just say to one of these people, "I'm not sure yet. What are you doing?" and if what they say sounds like fun, just say, "Oh hey, that sounds like fun. Can I come with you?" If people are talking to you on MSN, clearly they don't hate you...and if you IMed people first just to do this, then you doubly deserve it. It's entirely possible some of these people asked you because they thought maybe they could join you. You make friends by acting like you want to be friends with people. Not by waiting for people to take pity on you. Anyone who thinks you're weird for being friendly is, as cliched as it sounds, simply not worth it.
