Wait...did you ask them to do this? The most awkward moment of my academic life was when a teacher made us write compliments of everyone in the class, INCLUDING HER. She's just lucky she didn't ask for comments, because it wouldn't have ended well. Teachers shouldn't fish for compliments from their kids; it makes them trust you less. If you don't have confidence in yourself, why should they have confidence in you? Use this bad day as inspiration to revamp your class and teaching style. This does not sound like the random outburst of a few angry kids; this sounds like something you really should think about. If this was a school-mandated survey of the students (like what colleges do of professors), then this is DEFINITELY something you need to take into consideration. Your boss reads these, too, and it will have an effect on your continued employment. Oh, and in the states, first-year teacher means this is the first year she is teaching, not that she is teaching first grade. These are probably not little kids.
^ I have to agree, about the asking for comments herself. My girlfriend teaches singing, and I've never seen someone get so much praise from students without asking. Kids were excited to go see a musical just because she's the lead, but I'm used to kids hating real musicals. Treat your students right, and the positive comments will come in time. I actually went back to see my 6th grade teacher last year, because I realized she was really a fantastic teacher. She was strict, but with respect. She never made anyone feel dumb, though she did reward excellence a little more(I got three scoops of ice cream, and everyone got at least one). Building relationships with students is the sure-fire way to get what you want. Kids want respect, and will typically return the favor
You obviously didn't instill enough fear in them, OP. Who cares what a bunch of dumb kids think?
your a shitty teacher if first graders r saying that about u
oh great. your one if those teachers
Why did you let your students talk to you that way? They should know that even if they don't like their boss they shouldn't talk that way to their face.
Mrs. soik?

...Maybe over the summer you should consider changing a smidge.
Teachers like you are the reason society has gone backwards. No wonder teen suicide rates are going up, teens living on the streets doing drugs and alcohol, get high off paint and petrol and then start graffitiying everywhere. Yea you should be shot. Jks, that sucks OP, should have brought them all cookies and ice-cream on their last day! Suddenly you'll be their favorite teacher!
