You should just tell her straight up that you're a lesbian. If she's a true friend then she'll understand. If not then she'll start to freak out and act weird around you, which you don't need. Believe me, they can talk mess about you, but if they put they hands on you, then slap them back... You can say it was self defense, and she's a homophobe...
