Today, my boss decided that a mug and a public 'thank you' were a sufficient substitute for a Christmas bonus. FML

At least you got that. Bonuses aren't guaranteed, and some bosses don't recognize their employees' hard work.

I'm sorry OP he might be like Scrooge, damaged at a young age. :/ Anyways, Merry Christmas! :)

Be thankful for that, OP. That sucks, but it could be worse.

Make up for it by working slightly less harder until you feel that you're "even" on not getting the bonus.

Actually, in some jobs, bonuses are an official part of the compensation package. If it's variable, employees are usually notified during the year how the company is doing and about how much bonus they can expect. It really loses all meaning at that point, but the employees are fully within their rights to expect that kind of "bonus."

You should be thankful to get anything. Most employers do nothing for the holidays.

I have to work the day of Christmas and don't get holiday pay. It's a little hard for me to feel sorry for you.

Exactly the same here. I read the fml and thought, "I get nothing and I have to work Christmas...I want a mug and a thank you."

We used to get $20 dollar gift cards at my place of work for Christmas. Now we get a useless coupon. I would rather have a mug.

Just go all "randy quaid, Christmas vacation" on his ass. Haha.

Sometimes a thank you is better than a gift

Times are hard, maybe he just couldn't afford it? Be grateful for what you have, OP.
