It's one of these 'good news bad news' kind of situations...
it's actually a bad thing , but if you think about it , death makes us rethink our lives and appreciate more the people in it so maybe that's what happened to him , and he realized that he can't live without you and that you're too dear for him to lose.
A funeral's supposed to be a celebration of a life. Not the mourning of a death. Only recently did it become this huge super sad thing. The ancient Romans used to throw a party and give their dead food every year. Their dead were treated like the living. At a celebration of a life, he wanted to start a new one with you. I don't see a problem at all.
The mourning thing has not been too recently. There have been official mourners (paid to mourn the loss of someone) since BC times.
He's a romantic one for sure. Maybe he thought it would just cheer you up
