That kind of brainwashed BS attitude is one more thing that keeps Americans in fuckloads of student debt. That's what we were taught when I was growing up too, and it's a load of horseshit. If you find a good program with good teachers (CC's are great for technical and workforce training), you've got nothing to worry about. I went to a "prestigious" private college and now I'm doing networking tech at a CC to pay for the loans I needed for a degree I supposedly HAD to get. I wish I'd done this straight out of high school instead of wasting my time and money.
w/e going to community college first is actually much more financially beneficial due to much lower tuition and fees than a University so be proud that you are moving forward and bettering yourself if your bf has a problem with your strategy he can suck it
His opinions don't define you and shouldn't affect a choice like going to community college. If you want to go, then go :)
It all depends on context, it is a personal standard he holds, you have your own standards, just because he doesn't see himself going to a community college doesn't mean he doesn't support you going to one.
That's ridiculous! For core classes it's cheaper plus easier to maintain a high gpa.
Good for you. Just because your brother is an idiot with no plans, doesn't mean you have to be. My brothers have both expressed similar thoughts to me at other points in the past. One is a drug addict, the other is an alcoholic mechanic. I'm a programmer and starting a happy little family. Who would you say is the failure in this scenario?

At least you're moving ahead. Don't worry, you'll be fine. :)
College is expensive as hell. You'll save a ton of money by going to a community college and as long as you still get a degree from a good school you'll be fine.
