Today, my boyfriend wrecked our car. Now I can't get to work in order to make the money we need to buy a new one. FML

Insurance? If your boyfriend is driving uninsured or the car is uninsured then YDI. Otherwise there's no need to "work" to fix/get the car's money

Can a coworker or friends give you a ride?

Maybe you could get a bus or a cab. Then you can make your money and still have a job

Hope your boyfriend can fork over the cash to help you get a new car if your insurance sucks!

Dang OP. Sorry to hear about that, maybe bus it?.. I hate buses too I know. Smelly people... crowded..

Here's an idea. You don't need a brand new car. Go to Craigslist, get something that runs and drives for under a grand. Get something nicer on down the road when you can afford it.

I can't express in words how badly this would turn out.

She probably didn't mean a brand new car, just one that is new to her. It's a pretty common use of language. A car for under 1k sounds like a waste of 1k.

How would it turn out badly? You get your me mechanic to check it out before you buy. As long as it gets from A to B, who cares? OP is from Illinois, and probably not Chicago. They probably see clunkers everyday. I know, I'm from there and have driven my share of $500 cars. Some of them are actually good running cars, just not new and pretty.

Oh not at all. You can get some great deals for under a grand. I didn't mean to be rude about it. I'm just saying it don't need to look good as long as it runs good. If the drivetrain is solid it'll get you where you want to go, know what I'm sayin?

Are there no bus routes by your house, OP? I know it takes longer, but getting to work on the bus is better than not going at all

I hope that there is public transport available. Might take longer but it has to be better than missing work entirely.

insurance? and also, please don't let the excuse of don't have a car so you using public transport to get to work. best of luck
