Today, my computer stopped working. Me, the technology challenged one, decided to do a system recovery on it hoping that I could make it better. Turns out, system recovery means deleting all the files off the computer including family photos, music and assignments and starting fresh. FML

YOU NEVER PUSH BUTTONS WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW FOR SURE WHAT IT WILL DO! Crap! That is one of the first lessons you learn as a child! Didn't your mom tell you not to touch things that you don't know about? Did you not pay attention?

The OP did a system RECOVERY not RESTORE. And we don't know what the OP means by "stopped working". It doesn't necessarily mean the computer just won't turn on. Obviously the person is not completely computer illiterate, it really couldn't be that hard to find out how to do a system recovery if you were trying to find out a way to fix the computer. Or maybe they'd heard of a friend doing a system recovery before and thought "oh, I'll try that". Yes they were stupid, it doesn't mean they're fake though.

You are a dumbass. you deserve no sympathy.

Oddly, I just recently reformated my own hard drive today! I have another drive for all that extra shit. You're stupid for not doing the same, or something similar (flash drives, CDs, file storage sites, etc...) You're also stupid for ignoring what the computer was telling you it was doing, and for trying to do something when you don't know what you're doing.

System restore (the windows built in application) does not erase any document, photo, music etc. it reverses installation and configuration changes. What you did i think was use the "reset to factory" thingy some pc have (like HP) that does erase everything and leaves the pc like it was when it was bought. But most importantly it DOES warn you that all will be lost.

Sucks that you lost all that, but if you don't know what you are doing, call the Geek Squad or ANYONE who does know what they are doing. You should back things up constantly, if you can't even do that, get someone to do it for you, heck pay them to teach you how to do it. It may not all be lost, you could be so technologically challenged that you just can't find it. Before you mess it up more, get someone who knows what to do, to look at it. Apparently though, you are computer savvy enough to use a website. So not all is lost.

I've actually had this happened. I thought at one point it erased all my documents, pictures, etc, but after restarting the computer, all my stuff came back. I feel your pain, OP. Now you know to back it up, lesson learned. FYL

Anyone wonder how someone THAT technologically challenged was even able to get on FML and post this?

i actually just did a system recovery. (or restore...? either way...) it didn't erase everything, just to the date i selected. TRY TO STOP ME NOW PERSONAL ANTI VIRUS. MWAAHAHAHAHAHAA >:P

Worst possible naming for something that delete everything. Blame microsoft. Good news is, there are programs and companies that can recover deleted files. You might get your photos back after all. Probably best to ask someone rather than do it yourself.
