My first time driving I almost reversed into my mother getting out of the driveway.
I can't imagine someone panicking so hard that they let go of the brakes. That doesn't even make sense.
Sorry OP; it sounds like your father might not be the right one to help teach you to drive. You'll do better in a professional driver's ed environment.
You're right, but only because they have at least a brake pedal if not an entire set on controls in the passenger seat of those cars.
I hope the car didn't go through your garage. Also I hope you have good car insurance. Good luck :(
Your last name isn't Skywalker by any chance? Darth Vader FTW
That's why when I first started to practice I was in a parking lot. I warmed up to backing out of the garage that takes some skill and gotta be comforable with driving first.
My dad taught me how to drive and be was very calm. Then the first time I went driving with my mom I was drifting towards a pole and my mom SLAPPED my hand TOWARDS the side of the street the pole was on. To this day I refuse to drive with her
Yeah. People should be really calm when their kid is about to destroy the house.
first lesson learned "don't panic"

Yikes. You might want to practice somewhere where you can't break anything. Empty parking lots are nice.
how bad was it?
